Text Connection#3

The video “Soldiers Speak Out,” the soldiers who came back from Afghanistan were devastated and they got to see the ugly truth about war. The thematic theme between the video and the story is that both the soldiers in the video and the sniper in the story hated war. In the video the soldiers talked about there experiences at Afghan in a negative way, they couldn’t really explain how bad it was to be in warfare at Afghanistan. They have hatred for war, they think it’s an insult to humanity and they like seeing the people to protest against war. For example in the video from 0:16- 0:20, a person says “I was one of the troops. I served in Iraq. I see people protesting, I like this war to end.” In the story, the sniper must want what the people in the video wanted, the war to come to an end. The sniper himself hates war; there is only a limit to people seeing dead, unless that person enjoys watching lives being executed, if you see people dying all the time then that person must have great sorrow and must be furious about everything that are going around them, which is what situation the sniper is in. For example of how the sniper reacted, “…..He revolted from the sight of the shattered mass of his dead enemy….Cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody.

Text Connection#2

The picture titled “Bloodz n Cripz, it’s on,” has a lot of meaning to it. The Bloods wearing red and the Crips wearing blue divides them apart, having there own colors as to symbolize which gang they are in. Also in this drawing it shows the two members from the different gangs giving each other a very vicious look. This shows that something that is immense will happen between them like a life taken away. The thematic connection between the picture and the story is that when someone joins a riot, the war, a street gang, etc. that person is bound to loose something that is very special to them, which will lead them to more hatred. In the picture looking at the way the two guys are staring at each other they look like they will jump one another for a very strong reason. Usually gangs meet up at a place and have gang fights, but most of the members aren’t fighting for a reason, they just fight because they have to, due to that they are in a gang and are supposed to fight when the gang needs its people. But in this picture it looks like one of the members killed the other member’s “brother” and now they are ready to take each other down as to revenge. For example in the picture, the artist decided to make the characters hold guns. This shows that they are ready to kill each other any time and you can see hatred blazing in their eyes like fire. In the story it says “Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother’s face.” At this part faith turns the plate around on him. When the sniper was aiming at his enemy to shoot him down before, even though he had pity for the enemy he still shot him down, but if he knew it was his brother he would have not shoot him down. But since he didn’t he had lost something valuable to him because he was in the war, and sometimes the sniper may be angrier at what had happened and probably started to hate on everything even more than before.

Text Connection#1

The poem “Poem for War….Against War” is trying to give a clear vision to people that war is unnecessary and it causes hatred, reducing peace, love and harmony between people. The thematic connection between the poem and the story is that war just kills innocent people, for a solution that could have been negotiated through other ways like talking, but instead through violence, and most of the people serving in the war do not like violence but are still fighting because they have no other choice. In the beginning of the poem it says “Prisoners of war increase,” in war no one can go to prison for killing another because that is what war is all about; killing the opposite side. What the sentence is really trying to say is that, each day, many people are feeling like they have imprisoned themselves by serving the war, putting themselves in misery because they are killing many lives and they know those lives have loved ones that care about them and now those people are going to go through a lot of pain due to the lose of their beloved ones. This strongly relates to the sniper in the short story. “The sniper looked at his enemy falling and he shuddered….His teeth chattered, he began to gibber to himself, cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody.” Here the sniper is showing great hatred to war and everything else because he understands that the enemy he killed may have been his foe but that foe was a beloved to another person, seeing someone’s loved one die, thinking how they may feel knowing that their beloved soul is lost forever probably feels like a knife going through the sniper’s heart.
Below is the poem "Poem for War...Against War":
Another day of fighting
Another day of wars
More casualties to count
More wounded mount
Prisoners of war increase
Propaganda consistently release
Who do we believe?
Missiles and bombs hit their targets
Occasionally, they stray- killing the innocents
Reality of wars becomes transparent
The cost is monumental
Affecting tearfully someone’s mother, father, sister, brother and more
A love one is gone forever
The conflicts continue
The cycle’s renewed
War for peace… a noble objective
Peace for war… an immoral exchange
For war… against war
A world divided… a world apart
Peace is held hostage
By man’s inability to love and live in harmony
Why do we fight, and kill one another?
It’s the question of the generations
Perhaps one-day war will be defeated…
And conciliation become the blueprint of existence

Introductory to ISU

My ISU will be based on the short story “The Sniper” written by Liam O’Flaherty. In this story it talks about a Republican sniper fighting against the Free Staters in a civil war. In this story the young sniper is shown as a brave, mighty hearted person who takes risks. He shows great hatred to war and to himself for fighting in the war. He is fed up with everything, seeing the lose of the innocence. In our society today there are still many wars happening all over the world. All this is happening just because of the bickering that happens between different sides, instead of a solution with peace and harmony, a war would be started. The Sniper will be connected to three other texts through thematic link which is inhumanity of war( dehumanization, loss of innocence). The three texts that will be thematically connected to The Sniper will be a poem called “Poem for War….Against War” by Dennis Arthur Dames, where the poet points out that war just leads to the unwanted death of people, the sniper also thinks this way in the story. The next text is a picture titled "Bloodz and Cripz, it's on", here there is a member from each gang, and the facial expression they have on their faces, as if something really bad has happened and they have hatred glowing in their eyes. The sniper in the short story may have had the same hatred inside him as the two guys, when he found out that, that the foe he killed turned out to be his brother. The third text is a youtube clip called "Soldiers Speak Out,"where soldiers who just returned from Afghanistan that war was almost like an insult to humanity. In the story the sniper must have felt the smae way looking at innocent people die everyday.

Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog. Let me tell you a little about myself. I'm 14 years old and I was born in Canada. The music I listen to are Rap, Hip Pop, R'n'B, a little bit of Reggae, and anything else that is good to listen to. One of my most favourite rappers is Lil Wayne also known as Weezy.F.Baby, and that is why I named my blog "weezyweezyweezy." Wayne is probably one of the best rappers who can stir up music that you can put into your ears and enjoy. Anyways I'll try to update this blog later on but this blog was orignally made for an english assignment. The assignment was to pick a short story that we have read in class so far then to analyze it and connect the story to three other texts through thematic link. I picked the short story The Sniper. If you want to see my assignment and find out the thematic link of The Sniper and the three other texts, then check out my upcoming posts, you can find the posts down at the archives. After this ISU, hopefully I can manage to keep up with my blog and posts more things up.
